Position Summary
This hybrid position is located out of either our New York City or Hartford, CT offices.

We maintain a large data store of health care information covering over 150 million patients at CVS Health. Our large data set is used by our data engineering group to develop scalable solutions. Our engineers provide secure storage, processing, transformation, and enrichment of terabytes to petabytes of health care data in support of critical business decisions and better patient outcomes.
As a Data Engineer, you will be instrumental in creating, building, and sustaining scalable data Engineer pipelines that integrate, clean, and organize large and complex sets. Your efforts will help develop best-in-class data products and software solutions, with a focus on user interaction and business insight.
This position entails intimate working with cross-functional groups, presenting a special opportunity to work in a fast-paced and agile setting. In our technology-driven solution, you will learn the latest data engineering patterns and best practices while tackling actual business challenges.
Key Responsibilities
Data Pipeline Development:
Design, implement, and support scalable ETL/ELT pipelines to process structured and unstructured data efficiently.
Data Storage and Processing:
Work with NoSQL and SQL databases to store, manage, and optimize big data.
Cloud and Big Data Technologies:
Employ cloud platforms (ideally Google Cloud Platform – GCP) to develop and deploy data engineering solutions.
Data Transformation and Enrichment:
Create transformation logic to clean and normalize healthcare data for analytical and operational purposes.
Business Collaboration:
Work with business analysts, data scientists, and software engineers to uncover requirements and provide quality data solutions.
Performance Optimization:
Optimize query performance and optimize data pipelines for speed and efficiency.
Automation and DevOps:
Use CI/CD pipelines, Git, and DevOps practices to automate the deployment process.
Data Security and Governance:
Comply with data privacy policies and adopt best practices for data security.
Required Qualifications
To be eligible for this position, applicants should have the following qualifications:
Minimum 1+ years of experience with SQL and NoSQL databases.
Minimum 1+ years of experience with Python (or equivalent scripting language) for data manipulation and automation.
Experience with data warehouses, such as data modeling, technical architecture, and infrastructure components.
Demonstrated experience in ETL/ELT development and constructing high-volume data pipelines.
Knowledge of analytics and reporting tools.
Knowledge of query optimization, data structures, metadata management, dependency handling, and workload balancing.
Experience in big data and cloud architecture (GCP would be preferred but AWS and Azure experience will also be looked for).
Preferred Qualifications
Individuals with the following additional skills and experiences will have a competitive advantage:
High problem-solving abilities and capacity to handle complex systems.
Good collaboration and communication ability to interact with cross-functional teams.
Knowledge of data visualization and reporting tools.
Background with cloud-based data engineering solutions, especially on GCP.
Concept of DevOps best practices such as Git, CI/CD pipelines, and version control.
Shell scripting skills (Bash), UNIX utility, and command-line interface knowledge.
Working exposure to API building and microservices architecture.
Skills in schema designing, dimensional data modeling, and data governance.
Google Professional Data Engineer certification (a definite asset).
Awareness of software development methodologies, SAFe (Agile framework), and Waterfall.
Work background in healthcare domains is helpful.
Large-scale data collection Ability to create and maintain databases and data lakes.
Educational Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information systems, Data Engineer , data analytics, machine learning, or a related field is required.
Master’s degree desirable but not mandatory.
Compensation and Benefits
The salary scale for this position is $79,310.00 – $173,040.00 per annum. The actual base pay provided will vary based on factors like experience, education, geographic location, and other job-related considerations.
